A Day in the Life of the U of M 2008

On Thursday April 17th, we asked students who had been nominated by their First-Year Writing instructors to go to a location on or near campus for at least 15 minutes, in order to observe and write a description of the place. Their purpose was to accurately describe the scene as part of a "verbal collage" of the U of M campus that day.

We asked the students to try to be a verbal camera, noting that there might or might not be a brief "story" that they observed that would give shape to their description. We asked them to aim for a clear picture of "A Day in the Life of the U" at that spot and time.

Two of the winning submissions describe the TCF Bank Stadium site, the newest addition to campus; one describes the Campus Knoll, the oldest portion of campus.
